What Is Traditional Stucco?
Traditional stucco is a cement-based exterior finish commonly made from cement, sand, lime, and water. A traditional three-coat system generally consists of a scratch coat, brown coat, and finish coat.
Once properly installed and cured, stucco creates a hard, durable exterior. It works particularly well with Spanish Revival and Mediterranean architecture but can also complement contemporary homes.
EIFS vs Stucco: Insulation
Energy efficiency is one of EIFS's strongest advantages. Because insulation is incorporated into the exterior system, it can help reduce heat transfer and address thermal bridges that may remain when insulation is installed only between wall studs.

Cost depends on much more than exterior square footage. Wall height, accessibility, demolition, insulation thickness, architectural details, substrate condition, moisture damage, and finish selection can all affect the final price.
For this reason, homeowners should compare detailed estimates based on their property's actual conditions rather than relying solely on average per-square-foot pricing.
Which Should You Choose?
EIFS may be preferable when continuous exterior insulation, energy performance, and lightweight architectural detailing are priorities.
Traditional stucco may be the better fit when homeowners prefer a hard cement-based surface, traditional construction characteristics, or compatibility with an existing stucco home.
